Nutella Filled Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Cookie mix and creamy chocolate hazelnut spread pair up for an easy dessert: Nutella Filled Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars.

I love when I get my monthly Degustabox because it lets me explore new and delicious ingredients. In case you don't know from my previous posts, Degustabox is an awesome subscription food box that I receive each month. The foods inside are a surprise and I always discover great ingredients and snacks.

This month's revelation was a box of King Arthur Flour's Everyone's Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix. This is part of their Essential Goodness line of mixes, with no hydrogenated oils, no artificial colors, no preservatives; they're also kosher and non-GMO. Basically, this is a perfect baking mix for someone like me, who usually prefers to bake from scratch—but needs a shortcut every once in a while!

I decided to kick these cookies up a notch with the addition of Nutella, the classic chocolate hazelnut spread. My son loves it on crepes, popovers, toast—basically all carb-y items. So putting it in cookies would really blow his mind!

Ingredients

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease an 8x8 pan.
Optional (but it's what I do): Cut a length of parchment paper long enough to line the bottom of the pan with extra hanging over the sides. This allows you to lift bars out of the pan to easily cut them on a flat surface after they're done cooling. Put the parchment into the greased pan.

Stir together the cookie mix, butter, egg, and milk just until combined. Scrape the bowl, as necessary.

Spoon a little more than half of the cookie dough into the prepared pan. Press to cover the bottom of the pan—it'll be a very thin layer. Top with spoonfuls of the Nutella all around the dough; lightly spread the Nutella into an even layer. Then drop small spoonfuls of the remaining cookie dough over the Nutella (it's okay if it doesn't completely cover the Nutella, it'll spread a bit during baking).

Bake for 20-23 minutes, until the top is golden brown. Allow to cool completely. Using the parchment paper, lift out of the pan and place onto a cutting board. Cut into squares, triangles, or rectangles and enjoy!

There will be a ribbon of Nutella running through these cookie bars, and you'll see some of the chocolate-hazelnut spread peeking out of the top, too. They are heavenly and incredibly easy!

Thanks to Degustabox for introducing me to this delicious cookie mix!
